Understanding Grey Hair
What causes grey hair? Well, a reduction in menalin. Which can be caused by ageing, oxadative stress or genetics. So there isn't a lot we can do to prevent it. Our choices are cover, blend or accept them.
The most common insecurities I hear about greys, are to do with ageing or hair quality. Personally I think the 2 go hand in hand. Youthful hair, no matter what colour, is hair that looks healthy, shiney and looked after. I don't think it always comes down to having grey hairs or not.

Opting for highlights for a Lighter Colour
Lighter highlights for blending
Blending: Highlights help blend grey hairs so they don't stand out so much, and can give a more seamless look.
Low maintenance: Lighter shades require less frequent touch-ups, making them a go-to for busy lifestyles; think 10-12 weeks inbetween salon visits.
Drawbacks of lighter colors.
Coverage: Lighter shades may not catch every grey hair, leading to some visible greys.
Permenant colour for an all over Darker Colour
Darker colours for complete coverage.
100% coverage: Dark shades cover all grey hairs, offering a more even look.
Quick salon visits: The process can be shorter and more straightforward at the salon, which is great for time-conscious individuals.
Considerations of darker colors.
- Maintenance: Darker hair requires more regular touch-ups, which could be a downside for some. This can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on grey % and how much it bothers you.
Lifestyle Considerations
Factors influencing colour choice.
Time: Assess how much time and £ you have for salon visits and hair care.
Occasions: Consider how frequently you attend events that might influence your hair colour choices.
Personal preference.
Reflect on how you feel about maintaining a consistent colour versus enjoying the freedom of less upkeep.
There is always the other option...
Embrace the greys and their unique colours and patterns! If this is appealing then my advice would be a really good haircut that reflects your style, this, and a good lipstick will add a chic finishing touch.
Every individual’s hair is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach is not ideal in my opinion. I hope my insights might provide you with a bit more information to consider before diving in to one way or another.
